In the USSR, higher education was free and accessible to all citizens. Studying at higher education institutions lasted from 4 to 6 years, depending on the chosen specialty. Higher education institutions were divided into universities, institutes, academies and higher schools.
Admission to universities was carried out through a competitive system. Applicants passed state exams in basic subjects and in specialized subjects that were required for admission to the chosen specialty.
Higher education in the USSR was focused on training high-level specialists. The curriculum included not only theoretical disciplines, but also practical exercises and laboratory work. The training was conducted in Russian, regardless of the region where the university was located.
After graduating from the university, the student received a diploma that was equivalent to a diploma from many universities in Europe and the USA. The diploma gave the opportunity to work in a specialized field not only in the USSR, but also abroad.
Moscow State University
MSU is the Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov. It is one of the largest and most prestigious universities in Russia and the world, founded in 1755. Baumanka
Bauman University (officially – Moscow State Technical University named after N.E. Bauman), founded in 1830. During the Soviet era, it was called the Moscow Higher Technical School named after Bauman. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious technical universities in Russia and Europe. The university is located in Moscow and includes 18 faculties providing education in more than 60 specialties in the field of engineering and science. More than 18 thousand undergraduate and graduate students study at Bauman University, and more than 2,700 teachers and researchers work there. Bauman University is a symbol of Russian technical science and industry, and its history proudly contains many important scientific and technical discoveries and developments.
