A CONSTRUCTION TEAM is an organization, usually temporary, that is created for the purpose of performing construction work on a specific site or territory. A construction team may consist of various specialists: builders, engineers, architects, electricians, etc. A construction team may be created for both civilian and military needs. For example, in the USSR in the 1930s, mass construction campaigns were organized under the names “Lenin Construction Team”, “Kirov Construction Team”, etc. They were attracted to the construction of factories, state farms, residential buildings, and other objects.
Komsomol construction sites
Komsomol construction projects were a program that involved the mass participation of young people in the construction of cities and industrial facilities in the period from 1929 to 1957 in the USSR.
The program was launched in 1929 to give young people the opportunity to demonstrate their strengths and skills in solving the country’s current economic problems. It was called “Komsomol Construction Projects” in honor of the Komsomol organization, which was the main source of personnel for this program.
The youth who took part in the Komsomol construction projects carried out work on various sites: they built residential buildings, schools, hospitals and other social facilities, as well as industrial buildings and infrastructure. The work was carried out under conditions of tough daily work and a strict daily routine, and was carried out both in cities and in rural areas.
Komsomol construction projects were of great importance for the development of the country during the Industrial Revolution and economic recovery after World War II. They helped create a powerful infrastructure and make a qualitative leap in the production of essential goods and services. As a result of the Komsomol construction program, many large facilities, cities and residential complexes were built, which became true symbols of the era.
BAM
BAM is a bypass railway that was built between 1938 and 1984 in Russia and Siberia to connect vast and remote territories with the center of the Soviet capital. The work was carried out on the territories of 5 Soviet republics – Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, China and Korea, and the length of the new line was more than 4,000 km.
Construction of the BAM began in 1938, but due to World War II, the project was suspended for several decades. The project was resumed in 1974, after which construction quickly gained momentum. BAM was the largest construction project in the history of the USSR, and hundreds of thousands of workers and engineers were mobilized for its construction.
The constructed line was a very important resource for the economic development of the country, because it provided the opportunity to export many goods and materials from the regions of Siberia and the Far East. BAM supplied large cities of Siberia and the Far East, such as Khabarovsk and Vladivostok.
