The city of Perm was one of the largest cities in the Ural region and an important industrial, cultural and scientific center during the Soviet era.
One of the key industries in Perm was the chemical and petrochemical industry. There were many petrochemical plants and factories producing various types of products in the city and its environs. The most famous of them were the Perm Petrochemical Plant.
Cultural life in Perm was also rich and diverse. The city had many theaters, museums, exhibition halls and concert venues. One of the most significant cultural sites in the city was the Opera and Ballet Theater, which was built in 1959.
Perm also had many educational institutions of different levels and profiles. The city was an important scientific and educational center for the entire Ural region, and many research institutes and scientific centers were located here.
Currently, Perm continues to be a major industrial and cultural center of the Ural region, and its territory is home to many large industrial and scientific enterprises, as well as higher education institutions and cultural facilities.
The pearl of Perm in the USSR was an architectural ensemble that included historical buildings, parks, gardens, museums and theaters. One of the bright symbols of this ensemble was the famous Perm Opera and Ballet Theater, located on the bank of the Kama River. During the Soviet era, Perm became a large industrial center, and its architectural ensemble was vigorously protected from destruction and development of the city inconsistent with historical architecture. Many buildings have now been restored.
