Bicycles

Bicycles were a special type of transport in the USSR. They were available to many people and were used for entertainment, sports events and recreation. Bicycles were mass-produced at factories such as the Minsk Motorcycle and Bicycle Plant, the Kharkov Bicycle Plant (KhVZ), the Penza Bicycle Plant named after M.V.Frunze (PVZ), the Moscow Bicycle Plant (MVZ), the Kirov Plant, etc. They came in different models and sizes, but most of them had heavy metal frames, rigid forks and pedal brakes. In Soviet society, the bicycle was both a means of transport and a symbol of a healthy lifestyle.

 

Children on bicycles in the USSR
